Christmas Tree Lot Banners: Sizes, Wording, When to Order

A Christmas tree lot needs a big roadside banner that drivers can read at speed, plus a few smaller banners on the lot. A common setup is a 3×10 or 4×10 ft "Christmas Trees" banner facing the road, a 3×6 ft price or tree-type banner, and a 2×6 ft hours or "Open" banner. Order in early November so everything is up before Thanksgiving weekend.

The 4 banners every tree lot should have

Banner Job Best size Where
Roadside banner Make drivers turn in 3×10 or 4×10 ft Fence or posts facing the road
Tree types and prices Answer the first question everyone asks 3×6 ft Entrance or checkout
Open / hours Tell people you're open now and when 2×6 ft Entrance, visible from the road
Extras Sell more: wreaths, stands, delivery, netting 2×4 or 2×6 ft Checkout and near the trees

Lots on a busy road often add a second roadside banner facing the other direction of traffic.

What should the roadside banner say?

Two to five words, as big as possible. Drivers only get a few seconds to read it. Good wording:

  • CHRISTMAS TREES
  • FRESH CUT CHRISTMAS TREES
  • CHRISTMAS TREES · WREATHS
  • CHRISTMAS TREES → TURN HERE
  • FRESH TREES · OPEN DAILY

Put your phone number or website on the smaller banners, not the roadside one. On a road where cars pass at 30–45 mph, aim for main words at least 10–12 inches tall (see our banner size guide).

Price and tree-type banner ideas

  • "Fraser Fir · Douglas Fir · Noble Fir" with a price or price range for each
  • "Trees 5–6 ft $__ · 7–8 ft $__ · 9 ft+ $__"
  • "Free Netting · Fresh Cut · We Load Your Tree"
  • "Wreaths · Garland · Tree Stands · Delivery"

Tip: if your prices change during the season, leave them off the big banner and use a small 2×4 ft price banner ($34.78 in 13 oz) that you can replace cheaply.

When should a tree lot order banners?

Order in early November. Many lots open the weekend before or right after Thanksgiving (Thanksgiving 2026 is November 26). Ordering early leaves time to adjust wording and hang everything before your first busy weekend. Forgot? Order by 1 PM Central on a business day: we print it that day and ship it free by priority overnight to all 50 states.

Which material for a 4–6 week outdoor season?

15 oz or 18 oz vinyl for roadside banners; 13 oz is fine for small banners on the lot. Tree lots get wind, rain, snow and cold. Heavier vinyl is thicker and stiffer, so it holds up longer in wind and weather.

  • On an open fence, choose grommets on all sides with closer spacing (every 1–2 ft) to spread the pull of the wind.
  • Hemmed edges come on every banner at no extra cost. Use bungee cords or zip ties at every grommet so the banner stays tight.

Can I reuse my banners next year?

Yes, if you plan for it. Leave the year and the prices off the main banners so they work every season. Roll them with the printed side out and store them dry instead of folding them.
